“Which came first, the phoenix or the flame?’
‘Hmm . . . What do you think, Harry?’ said Luna, looking thoughtful.
‘What? Isn’t there just a password?’
‘Oh no, you’ve got to answer a question,’ said Luna.
‘What if you get it wrong?’
‘Well, you have to wait for somebody who gets it right,’ said Luna. ‘That way you learn, you see?’
‘Yeah . . . Trouble is, we can’t really afford to wait for anyone else, Luna.’
‘No, I see what you mean,’ said Luna seriously. ‘Well then, I think the answer is that a circle has no beginning.’
‘Well reasoned,’ said the voice, and the door swung open.” – J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Major aspects of this moon: 6 Retrogrades (Chiron, Neptune, Mars, Pluto, Saturn, and Mercury), 2 T-Squares (Sun/North Node in Leo, Moon/Mars in Aquarius, Uranus in Taurus trigger AND Sun/North Node in Leo, Moon/Mars in Aquarius, Jupiter in Scorpio trigger), 2 Grand Sextiles (Jupiter/Pluto/Neptune AND Venus/Jupiter/Pluto), Opposition of Venus in Virgo and Neptune Rx in Pisces, Trines between Uranus Taurus and Venus Virgo and Uranus Taurus and Saturn Rx in Capricorn
Pure Change, our great horror, and our great hope, rests in the cradle of this full moon. There is quite a bit going on in this sky; multiple retrogrades, multiple T-squares, multiple grand sextiles, to name some of the major players. This is an Eclipse, and by nature, that means it deals with the “North Node” which is currently in Leo. We have now lived a year through this ego-driven Leo North Node, reclaiming our personal identities in exaggerated ways. It is pushing us, prodding us as if we are in the rink with it, challenging our courage, our self-esteem, our knowledge that we have the right to exist and the right to reign over our own kingdom. It has pushed us to fight past our “victim” mindset, to start swinging, to not fear the fall.
With Jupiter in Scorpio accompanying it, this year has been grand transformation and departure. We don’t have a choice. We have been personally set on fire, as individuals and as a collective. We are witnessing a great death, and now we must emerge out of the ashes; fearless of our new forms.
Over the course of the past few weeks, Venus has shifted from her power position in Leo where we received the initial spark of this fire. We are caught in the smoke now, fighting our way through the burning building that once held the shape and form of our lives. Free falling, we have now reached the ground in Venus in Virgo. Venus as Lucifer has reached her state of discontent. She must contend to the laws of mother earth, learn the secrets of the other side of the coin, and learn to reign before she can come back up. And we too must start shifting, turning to another side of us that has been itching to come out and play again. She inches closer to her retrograde, giving us sneak peaks of the carnage ahead. Hold on tight here, everyone, for Venus is rolling to the peak of her rollercoaster ride this year, with a Venus Retrograde in Scorpio ready to crush an essential value we use to hold dear. Don’t be afraid of the wake-up up call, she means well. She is merely doing what love does best; crushes your former illusions.
Speaking of retrogrades, let’s talk about Mars and Mercury and the strangeness that they add to this Full Moon. Mars is currently going retrograde in Aquarius, electrifying us with the hot blood of rebellion. To change, to leave, you run the risk of losing everything for your transformation. Once you start a fire, you cannot have back what it takes. Some sacrifice must be made for the body of the fire. Keep in mind, you will never take everything with you when you leave this place. Learn to let go for your own good now, with an acknowledgment of the great departure.
With an intimate connection to this full moon (Mars is conjunct the Full Blood Moon in Aquarius), tribal mentality is at an all-time high. Let this energy enforce your kinship with all of mankind – the humanity between all of us – instead of owing homage to specific false idols. Let today be a tribal dance for abundance, for Mars is also “industry,” instead of tribal warfare.
Mercury has gone retrograde, and with that, the traveler between worlds has taken a trip into the underworld. Mercury in Leo deals with putting our action where our word is. There is a microscope over our pride, we must truly earn the authority in our voices. Mental arrogance won’t make it out of this retrograde unscathed, and today’s full moon truly illuminates this point. You must learn to stand firm through the fall of your pride with relief, for why would you be happy to be surrounded by a fragile wall of lies? The truth is unbreakable. If you are to be a seeker of the truth, wearing false pride should be your greatest fear.
With Jupiter in Scorpio and Saturn in Capricorn, the very nature of our reality is exhibiting a remodeling. Saturn in Capricorn is currently Retrograde, coupled with Neptune in Pisces Retrograde, bringing a bone shattering to structures. If you are trying to climb your way out of this, you should be swimming instead. I know, go with the flow, some of you don’t like this one very bit. But take this from a quadruple Aquarian with a North Node in Pisces, the waters are of consciousness, bathe in them. The formlessness of water is an essential element of existence. From the formlessness, all things were birthed. Do not fear states of chaos, for they are merely wombs to other worlds. Making the decision to rebirth is quite scary. You have to jump in the waters, be baptized in fire, but you fear to let go.
Thankfully this Blood Moon has 2 T-Squares to help you cut loose those bonds. T-Squares are like surgical blades, ready to impose pressure into your life. With two, we are in for some major surgery. What are we cutting away from your life? It would be best to check the houses that the planets in this T-Square are transiting over your natal chart. The planet that is being squared by both of the planets in opposition is your “trigger planet,” that which hypes the tension between the planets in opposition. We have two T-Squares, both involve the moon/Mars and Sun/North Node opposition. One has the trigger of Uranus in Taurus, and the other Jupiter in Scorpio. So you’ve got two spiritual glocks, and the way to their power is learning to pull Uranus in Taurus and Jupiter in Scorpio.
That means you must simultaneously be absolutely present in the power, spiritual flow of your physical body and it’s genius (Uranus in Taurus), and also be ready to leap right out of that body (Jupiter in Scorpio). That is quite the prescription we have been dealt, but this T-Square is two wings ready to fly us out of this false world. We have the power to create, we have the power to transform, and in true Aquarian fashion, we have the right to revolution.
This moon is sowing seeds of rebellion into the collective unconscious. Keep in mind that eclipses shoot their intense energy into the collective and manifest their change over the course of 6 months. We will be getting the vibes of this moon for quite some time. Revolution is on the mind and so is a rebellion of all kinds. With two T-Squares, this moon is a MAJOR trigger for the coming transits. Something demanding revolution is on the horizon, sending this moon out as it’s bat-signal.
The angel Lucifer rebelled and was cast out of heaven, challenging the very structure of reality; God. As Camus said, I rebel therefore I exist, humanity’s essential nature is rebellion. We rage against the static world of Eden, bringing death into our world to cast us out of eternity. Our greatest gift, and the greatest jealousy of the gods, is our mortality. For only through the mortal’s courage to step through the flames do they get something the gods can never have; transformation.
